Life Support Invitation to Prayer #2
Judith Margolis
2019
This book joins journal entries with drawings and paintings, from the five years my mother was ill and the yahrzeit year following her death. Bearing witness in hospital rooms and at home, to family dynamics, in the face of emotionally charged life and death decisions while juggling the demands of marriage, motherhood, and professional obligations. I explore the tension between prolonging life and relieving suffering while considering the physical versus spiritual nature of death. How ironic that a life-long conflicted relationship with my mother did not prevent me from providing her with the most respectful and tender assistance to die.
