BARUCHEEM - HABAYIM
Judith Margolis
1988
Cloth and paper collage applied to the inside cover of a store-bought leather journal of the year 1988. Three boards using scraps of paper of lithography, intaglio, paint and crayon applied to both sides make 6 different surfaces which function as “pages.”
The pages are unbound so the reader can rearrange the order and therefore determine the narrative. The sequence is therefore unpredictable. Despite this, or maybe because of this, the book, with its heart breaking scrap of a child’s writing, and inked dream-like musing, is completely surprisingly satisfying to look at and hold. Like John Cage, of blessed memory, I am allowing coincidence or random chance to manifest the narrative.
