Beyond The Fence

Or Rahima

2025

A documentary book that seeks to present the meeting point and dissonance between the personal and the collective during the "Iron Swords" War: the lives of soldiers in Gaza versus the reality and daily routine in Israel.

The project presents documentary materials from the personal diaries of three soldiers from Sayeret Nahal (the Nahal Reconnaissance Unit). Through their diaries, we get a glimpse of what happened beyond the fence during the period they fought in Gaza - whether it’s the intense combat, their emotions, or their lived experiences. The book offers a window into the soldiers’ lives alongside the lives of Israeli civilians and what was happening in Israel during that time.

The book is a student project, created as part of the final project course in the Department of Visual Communication at HIT—Holon Institute of Technology, under the guidance of Avihai Mizrahi.
