David Avidan - Media Prophet
2019
Exhibition's Catalogue
Catalogue of the retrospective exhibition of David Avidan, curated by Uri Drumer. The exhibition follows the work process of poet and multi-disciplinary artist David Avidan (1934–1995), as expressed in his visual and vocal works, influenced by innovative media and technologies. Examination of his works reveals Avidan's obsession with image, text, and optical illusion, variants of drawings, assemblage, films, recordings, futuristic machines, and a departure from Earth towards outer space, to the point of making his kitchen into a futuristic laboratory.

David Avidan (1934–1995) was an Israeli poet, painter, filmmaker, publicist, and playwright. He wrote 20 published books of Hebrew poetry.
Uri Drumer is a self-taught interdisciplinary artist and active musician. In 2021, he was awarded a curatorial research grant from the Israeli Art Institute. Drumer is engaged in research and writing on alternative histories of Israeli art and culture. The exhibitions he has curated are accompanied by in-depth research publications, forming part of a curatorial approach that views the exhibition space and the book as a single, unified work. His interdisciplinary artistic practice, alongside his work as a musician and art teacher, his therapeutic training, and his particular personal interest in his research subjects, all inform his curatorial perspective and shape the relationship between his research processes and the construction of the exhibitions he curates.
