Assimilated Names — Erased Cultures

בשמחה 🙂 הנה תרגום מדויק ורהוט לאנגלית:

“For the Sake of the Name” is a book that explores the phenomenon of Hebraization of surnames in Israel as an act of cultural erasure and the construction of new identities.
It combines academic writing, personal texts, and graphic–typographic works based on processes of deconstruction and reconstruction. The book is composed of four chapters, each offering a different perspective—theoretical, historical, and visual—creating a continuum that weaves together research and creative practice.

Each chapter is defined by a distinct visual color and graphic technique, tailored to its subject and emphasizing its central idea. In addition, every chapter presents two personal case studies, each addressing a different method of Hebraicization. Through these cases, the book reveals the diverse ways in which the Hebrew language has served as a tool for erasure and the re-shaping of identity.

The book offers a multilayered reading experience—academic, historical, and visual—inviting renewed reflection on the process of Hebraicization and its impact on Israeli society.
