I Am an Island

I Am an Island, is Gabriella Klein's first artist book. The book is comprised of images from works on paper created over four years, depicting peoplescapes and portraits of trees in a non-linear visual narrative.
Preceding the colorful images is a poetic essay written by psychoanalyst and art critic Itamar Levy, as well as a non-formal transatlantic correspondence between fellow painter and friend Melanie Daniel.

Gabriella Klein is an American-Israeli painter based in Tel Aviv. She works with a variety of materials on paper and canvas, as well as creating site-specific wall paintings. Klein holds a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston and an MFA from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in collaboration with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She is the recipient of the Rappaport Prize for Acquisitions, Tel Aviv Museum of Art; the Ministry of Culture and Sport’s Prize for the Encouragement of Creation; a lottery grant for an artist’s book; and artist residencies in Austria and China.
Her work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including at the Israel Museum, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Haifa Museum of Art, the Ashdod Museum of Art, Be’eri Gallery, Yarkon 19, Tel Aviv Artists’ Studios, Maya Gallery, Noga Gallery, Barbur Gallery, the Biennale for Drawing, and the Herzliya Biennial.
