Belle Shafir

2023

In Tokyo, I walked into a second-hand bookstore where I found three notebooks containing black ink calligraphy on parchment. The seller told me about a woman named Imajimea, who created them around 80 years ago. Later, I also found a photo of the woman and her husband, along with their family name: Reiko. Although I travel frequently to Japan, this is the first artist’s book in which I directly engage with my love for Japanese culture.
