Real Flowers, Real Gifts
Shai Zurim
2005
A book of drawings, made to accompany Zurim's 2005 solo show at Sommer Contemporary Art Gallery in Tel-Aviv.
"Awareness is a key aspect of my work. I am constantly obliged to wake myself up to feel the social, cultural and political reality that surrounds me, to be a seismograph.
In order to be aware, I have to be on the move, and being on the move is one of the main reasons why I keep returning to the medium of drawing on paper.
Equipped with my sketchbook and pencils, liberated from the confinement of the artist’s studio. I hit the road, prepared to react in real time, where each new place turns into my home, my studio."
