RED+BLUE

“Make a few lines,” my father would say to me in my childhood as he handed me a sheet of paper and a pencil. I did as he said. Then he would pick up the sheet, squint, smile, and, with a pencil of a different color, carry on from there and turn my scribble into a drawing. How marvelous!

My father was a painter. I gave up on competing with his light virtuoso hand and became a photographer.

In recent years I have found myself drawing too and with the same “method”. Equipped with a sketchbook I pass my time in many different places with the red & blue pencil. I start doodling a number of lines in one color without any intention or plan , completely abstract, then I look at it, sometimes rotating the page back and forth, till the idea comes and I carry on with the other color from a ”scribble” to a drawing. 120 of these drawings are collected into this book.
