A family vacation
One notebook from a set of twelve created over two years. It is based on photographs from a family vacation taken between my children’s reserve duty rotations. The chosen destination was Crete—far enough to allow us to relax, yet close enough should we need to return.
Encounters of turquoise seas with blue skies. Mountain landscapes descending to meet the sea and its waves. The cradle of Western culture. A search for meaning in all that is unfolding around us. There are no answers, but there is comfort in being with my loved ones. To slow the pace, to glimpse through the fog, my children and their families, my child and my partner—so deeply present in my life. This is called love.
The figures and backgrounds were created using monotype, while the objects and landscapes were made through painting or collage.
