The Road To Ein-Harod - A Contemporary Journey

Efrat Galnoor

2021

The artist Efrat Galnoor marked seven stops on a journey that lasted three years, which she embarked on following Rafi, the protagonist of Amos Kenan's book, "The Road to Ein Harod". Galnoor walked from Tel Aviv to Ein Harod, at each stop along the way there was an exhibition that arose from the landscape, the meetings, and collaborations that emerged along the way.

What does Kenan's book, published in 1984 and describing Israel in a post-democratic, nationalist, chaotic, and violent state, have to do with what is happening today? How does the contemporary cultural dimension appear in our everyday landscape?

The book contains stories, photographs, drawings, and references: about the coastal night candle, the champion of the country in boxing, the siege of Givat Haim, and more. Gal-Nur deals with the topographical, geological, human, and historical dimensions of the landscape in the experience of the one who wanders through the landscape. All this is part of the artistic engagement with the connection between Israeli trauma and landscape.
