Gad Ullman (born 1938), is a multidisciplinary artist, a graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design (1960), who lives and works in Tel Aviv. His work explores themes of place and tradition, engaging in a sustained inquiry into the relationship between material, culture, and memory. His practice extends across both artistic and public spaces, creating analogies between material, tradition, and cultural heritage.
Ullman employs transformative processes that alter and renew materials—disassembling and reconstituting them into what he calls a “new matter.” Through this approach, he investigates both the construction and deconstruction of concepts such as identity, community, and place.
Moving between tradition and modernity, Ullman examines Israeli, Jewish, and Canaanite roots, integrating them into an artistic process that redefines the relationship between human beings, the land, and time itself.
