When You Grow Up You Will Visit Here Too

Gali Popper

2017

In the summer of the end of first grade, my mother sails to Italy, and from there she sends me postcards. I work with these postcards. When I was little, I always tried to imitate her handwriting. I would repeatedly go over the letters, until the signs would move to the page below. I enlarge the writing in different sizes. The large letters look like records of the soul to me. I feel the changing pressure, the slackness. Each page in the book has two sides, like a postcard. I place a few pages between blue copy papers, and go over the letters of the script in layers, like in a painting. I change the level of my pressure. On the upper pages, the ink color is intense, while on the lower pages the ink gets weaker. There are sentences and words that are important to me to write, which tell about the journey.
"We cross the borders of Italy"
"I did hundreds of kilometers on foot"
"Today I bought you a very nice red jacket"
"When you grow up you will visit here too"
"Like a princess"
"What a beauty and grandeur all around"
"A pair of sandals"
