Whisper of Memory

Belle Shafir

2016

Made from 2014 to 2016, this book deals with pictures of the artist's family archive, which she dared to open. From those photos, she creates images for her drawings and videos. The sequence of scenes and the multitude of images one next to each other and one above the other flood the viewer and disrupts his/her orientation. The intensive encounter with the images conflicts with the gap that exists between what she can remember from a specific situation taking place in her mind and extracting a memory from a photo in which the situation was captured by one photographer or another.
