OLYMPIA
Dana Yoeli
2018
The book Olympia, a cross between artist’s book and catalogue, was published at the same time as my solo exhibition Olympia at the Herzliya Museum. The exhibition dealt with the mechanisms of national commemoration and their reflection in local culture and architecture, and the visual expression of collective narratives in Israel through Greek classicism, German romanticism and brutalism. The Olympia catalogue was designed in a tangential effort, starting with the format and its internal division, which like a play is divided into prologue, five acts and epilogue as in Greek tragedies, and the video work in the exhibition, and ending with the melding of fonts from different sources and Greek letters.
