The book And a River Went Out of Eden was published as part of Elyakim’s exhibition at the Schocken Library, Jerusalem, in 2018. The library building was erected in 1936 for Zalman Schocken’s book collection and was designed by Erich Mendelsohn, one of the most important architects of the 20th century and a formulator of modern architecture.
The book includes the texts “The Library” by Maayan Elyakim, “Strange Stones and Good Neighbors” by Jesse Lockard and Rotem Linial, documentation of the library and the exhibition, and a book-version for the work First Six Panels.

Maayan Elyakim (b. 1985) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans sculpture, installation, photography, video, and print. Rooted in a cosmological approach, his practice envisions each artwork as a self-contained link within a reimagined (a)historical continuum—where past, present, and myth intermingle.
Blending mastery of diverse craft traditions with ongoing research in art history, mythology, and the sciences, his work reveals the latent metaphysical potential of the built environment.
A graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Elyakim lives and works in Tel Aviv. His work has been featured in numerous exhibitions in museums, galleries, and public spaces, including the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Bat Yam Museum, Petah Tikva Museum of Art, Sommer Contemporary Art, and Midrasha Gallery.
