Forever

Nir Hod (born in 1970 in Tel Aviv) is an Israeli contemporary artist. He lives and works between New York and Tel Aviv, and his practice incorporates painting, photography, sculpture, and video. Hod studied at the WIZO France High School of the Arts in Tel Aviv and later completed his art studies at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. He also took part in studies at the Cooper Union School of Art in New York. From the early 1990s he drew attention within the Israeli art scene through provocative figurative series that explored themes of identity, gender, the body, love, and death, often employing kitsch, emotional intensity, and a critical engagement with Israeli cultural myths such as the military and masculinity. In his later work he increasingly addresses memory, mourning, beauty, and the fragility of life, while blurring the boundaries between painting and photography and between sincerity and irony. Nir Hod has presented solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries in Israel and abroad, including the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and the Israel Museum, and his works are held in public and private collections and sold through international auctions.
