Salt Years

Sigalit Landau

2019

Salt Years, the latest book by the artist Sigalit Landau, marks 15 years of creation in the Dead Sea; A comprehensive book in which all the works she created in the Dead Sea appear together for the first time. The book contains works made especially for the project, documentation of the work processes in the studio and at sea, thought-provoking articles by colleagues from various fields and personal lists. Landau and her partner, the photographer Yotam From, reveal to the readers their journey inspired by the topographical, historical, biblical, cultural and political uniqueness of the Dead Sea. Landau examines the crystallization processes unique to the sea using an artistic technique she developed. She immerses everyday objects treated in the studio, in the Dead Sea water, and the sea breathes life into them. The statues rise above the surface of the water as belonging to another time and to other laws, the change that takes place in them reveals the divine and eternal element in their nature, and likewise, the phenomena of this time and its surroundings.
