The Central Library

Dalia Gal Sverdlin

2022

The Central Library is based on drawings from sketchbooks from 2018 to 2021, inspired by photographs taken by the artist in Sourasky Central Library at Tel Aviv University.
The book recreates an experiential flipping through a sketchbook; blank, pre-bound, without content, without words.
The artist uses drawings’ close-ups to create a one-space capsule into which everything converges. Printed and bound in a “French fold,” the book seems to merge the entire project into its dimension.
The visual research asks a question about the material body and the actual dimension of the library concept and, at the same time, rejects them.
