Aharon Shaul Schur: Toward a Hebraic Portraiture

Ron Bartos

2020

Despite his artistic qualities and his role in the formation of Jewish art in Israel in its early days, Schur did not receive much recognition. The painter Hermann Struck, his close friend, wrote about him in 1954, in an article titled The Humble Artist: "He is not one of the children of happiness. Despite all his faithful artistic power, he remains until now in the shadow of his exuberant humility, which hinders him from being seen in the full light of day." The present exhibition therefore seeks to turn the light of day to Schur's work in our time.
