Book of Strange New Things
Judith Margolis
2014
A found and altered book in progress
I selected this book from a giveaway box in 2014, attracted to it’s great title and edge gilding. Page by page, I have been revising the narrative with gradations of color, and occasional collage, and, when necessary, I leave a sentence or phrase, that turns out to be relevant to something that is about to happen. The book resides open on a map that depicts life’s concerns. The work is made of paint, collage pencil, ink. The map is made from brown paper, paint, collage, ink, gold foil. I have continued working on it for over a decade.
