Vasarely Material Archives

Oran Hoffmann

2019

In 2018 Oran Hoffmann's presented his solo exhibition 'Simulations and Illusions' following a year long research while residing at Fondation Vasarely in Aix-en-Provence, France. In this exhibition he presented sculptural works, made out of the original materials from the estate of the French Hungarian visual artist Victor Vasarely. The publication Vasarely Material Archives is a collection of photographs that Hoffmann made during his research period. They show the meticulous organization and the cataloguing of the original material that Vasarely employed for his own large-scale works. The ceramic tiles, aluminium pieces or paper sheets he discovered in storage were isolated and photographed as separate elements.
Hoffmann draws us nearer to the source from which artistic work erupts, while at the same time his photographic interventions both explore and interpret Vasarely’s work. Proposing that the material concealed possibilities allow for a different understanding of Vasarely his work.
A selection of these photographs is presented and available in book form, Vasarely Material Archives, published by RVB BOOKS, Paris, 2019.
