All Inclusive
Michael Liani
2021
The book All Included covers Michael Liani’s 2020 solo exhibition at the Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art. The book deconstructs the exhibition for the viewer and gives a unique glimpse into the work processes that led up to it.
The exhibition All Included focuses on the remnants of the all-Israeli psychedelic, conflictual experience that characterizes the southern resort city Eilat in the summer months, when tourists spend their vacation days there. Eilat is a destination city, a kind of longed-for illusion of vacation, warmth, entertainment, luxury, where everything is allowed and everything is possible; “What happens in Eilat stays in Eilat.” Liani dismantles and reassembles this experience. He peels back the face of Israeli domestic tourism and observes it from an internal and external perspective. Similar to his previous works, he seeks to reveal the gap between the ideal of freedom and liberation and the feeling of detachment embodied in the Eilat vacation.
