FINDING

Irit Tamari

2017

Finding was published in 2017 as an artist’s book, a chapter of which is dedicated to the solo exhibition Confronting A Statue curated by Shlomit Breuer at the Basis Gallery, which was located at the Basis School for Art and Culture in Herzliya.
The book serves as a kind of visual reflection diary, containing artworks alongside photographs, some of which are used as raw materials that will or will not be dismantled later. The thought behind the book, which also influenced its size, which fits in the palm, as well as its name, was the desire to convey my work process which consists of manually composing and disassembling photographs that I take on a daily basis.

My wish was to create an associative visual field that will allow the reader/viewer to navigate between the images themselves without being led by words about the images. I asked the editor and curator to think of texts from books or films which they liked and linked them with my body of work.

Apart from the images from the exhibition that are grouped in a separate chapter, the rest of the works are not presented chronologically but try to find new visual connections that allow the reader to peek into the process of my work and thinking, which draw from the image and its deconstruction.
